Product Description & Reviews

Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is a critical host plant for the Monarch butterfly. It produces apple-sized clusters of pale pink to purple blooms mid-summer. It is a long-lived perennial. Must be planted outdoors in the Fall or Early winter to grow in the spring! Monarch populations are dwindling because Milkweed plants are being destroyed by large agriculture and popular landscaping practices. You can help the Monarch by including this stately plant in your garden. Milkweed seeds germinate in the spring after overwintering, sometimes quite hesitantly. The first year growth has no flowers and is primarily below ground as the plant develops a deep root system. Plants in appropriate soil and light may bloom the second year. Third year plants can be quite impressive, producing abundant delightfully smelling blooms.
